Sporting St. Louis welcomes a talented independent team into the Sporting Club – McMahon Ford’s U13 Boys.
We had an opportunity to see the U13 Boys of McMahon Ford, up close and personal. And they handed us our heads.
It was the end of the season, the last game for the U14 Boys in the SLSG Premier League. The 14s had an off day, except for Cam Meyer who tended to his net with fearless abandon. McMahon Ford walked away with a 3 – 0 win. And though our boys played below their abilities on a weary season-ender, we walked away impressed with the McMahon Ford team. It wasn’t just that they took advantage; they played well, knocking the ball around and working to maintain possession.
And now … they’re part of the family. The U13 team has joined Sporting St. Louis.
You can join the Sporting StL – Rangers U13 Boys – McMahon Ford. Limited roster slots are still open for this spring. If you are interested, contact Bill Hency at 314-614-1748 or Pierre Benoist at 314-537-7036 to determine a time to kick it around with Sporting St. Louis’ McMahon Ford.
Bill Hency and Pierre Benoist, who coach the U13s, realized they could not take this talented team to the next level as an independent. The team has received generous sponsorship and support from McMahon Ford and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Athletic League. Unfortunately, the soccer landscape doesn’t treat independents kindly – it’s more difficult to join a league, it’s more difficult to be seeded in a tournament, it’s more difficult to accomplish nearly anything.
Hency and Benoist were attracted to our program, not only to leverage membership in a larger club, but to take advantage of the affiliation with Sporting Kansas City and allow these talented players to participate in Tommy Howe’s vaunted training sessions. “We are really looking forward to becoming part of the Sporting StL soccer club,” said Pierre Benoist.
And we are looking forward to having them in the club.
The move has already taken effect. Look for the Sporting StL – Rangers U13 Boys – McMahon Ford team in a Sporting kit at a futsal game near you.
